Support our schools

We have amazing schools in Runnymede and Weybridge, all working hard every day to create and deliver the best outcomes. Not just in their academic learning, but also in developing practical skills and the social and emotional awareness and resilience to be happy and confident. I believe that every child deserves a great education from nursery to university.

However, since the covid pandemic our schools, students and their families have been facing unprecedented challenges, from trying to catch up from the educational, social and emotional impact of school closures, to huge surges in referrals for autism and ADHD, huge demand for SEND support and broader social needs. I have been working with our local schools and colleges, as well as out University nurseries, to identify issues and the solutions needed to ensure every child has access to a great education.

I have:

  • Engaged with our nurseries, schools, colleges and university, supporting them to deliver high quality education
  • Advocated on their behalf to the Department for Education, Ofsted, Ofqual and any other relevant body
  • Delivered increased per pupil funding for schools and colleges
  • Supported capital funding bids to ensure improvements in school facilities
  • Worked with Surrey County Council as our Local Education Authority and other community organisations to ensure co-ordinated support for our schools
  • Campaigned locally and nationally for more and improved SEND support, to ensure everyone has the opportunity to access a great education.
  • Supported Further Education and the importance of vocational qualifications and apprenticeships
  • Encouraged opportunities for enrichment and engagement
  • Successfully campaigned for the expansion of childcare provision, helping children and families access local childcare more easily.
