Last week I met with Flooding Minister Rebecca Pow to discuss the River Thames Scheme and the need to progress flood alleviation measures to protect homes and businesses in Runnymede and Weybridge. I also used the opportunity to raise concerns over sewage flooding and invite her to visit Runnymede and Weybridge and meet with residents to discuss flooding issues later in the year. While it it is often easier to think of these issues in winter when the threat is at its highest, we need to maintain focus on delivering solutions which will provide immeasurable benefit to our communities. I am delighted by the continued commitment to address these issues and look forward to continued progress, with announcements expected in the coming months.
I also recently met with representatives from Thames Water regarding the local issues of sewage flooding, experienced again earlier this year, and the measures needed to prevent this. This is a complex issue and I am pleased to have arranged a meeting between them, local authorities, the Environment Agency and residents to discuss the current situation and work together to deliver clear measures to protect residents from this recurring situation.
