I would like to join the nation in congratulating Their Majesties, King Charles III and Queen Camilla, on the occasion of their coronation on Saturday 6 May.
This was a time for citizens throughout the UK and the Commonwealth to come together to celebrate our common heritage. The coronation service was adapted to reflect the society we live in. While principally a Christian service, religious leaders from other faiths had an active part in acknowledgment of the rich diversity of our nation. The Coronation service also incorporated other languages spoken in Britain, with a hymn sung in Welsh, Scottish Gaelic and Irish Gaelic.
King Charles has been a champion for our country throughout his life, through thousands of official engagements at home and abroad, as well as supporting causes including the environment, rural communities, the arts, healthcare and education. His tireless work with The Princes Trust, which he founded in 1976, has helped over a million young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to develop essential life skills and access job opportunities. Queen Camilla has supported over 90 charities in her role as Patron or President in vital areas including literacy, the arts, animal welfare and supporting survivors of domestic abuse and assault.
His Majesty has dedicated his life to public service, and I look forward to supporting the important work that he and Queen Camilla will continue to do in the course of their reign.
