Two devastating earthquakes hit Turkey on Monday morning, causing widespread devastation in Turkey and Syria.
The Government, along with many countries from around the world, have sent rescue teams and specialist equipment to the area to help with rescue efforts. Sadly, despite the work of thousands of rescue workers and volunteers, over 11,000 people are reported to have died, with tens of thousands more facing freezing temperatures with no shelter.
I know many groups are already working to help deliver support to those affected. For those who want to donate and support the relief efforts, the British Red Cross, working with the Turkish Red Crescent and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, has launched an urgent appeal to help the victims of this disaster. You can find more details, including how to donate to the appeal, here: https://donate.redcross.org.uk/appeal/turkey-syria-earthquake-appeal
I know many people are also concerned about friends or family in the region. If you are concerned about British nationals, you should contact the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office on 0207 008 5000.
If you or the person you are seeking is not a British national, please contact the relevant Embassy. You can find details of these here: Foreign embassies in the UK - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).
If you have not been successful in finding a relative through normal means of communication or through their embassy, the Red Cross may be able to help. People are advised to check the Restoring Family Links Website for updates.
