I am delighted that the Prime Minister has announced a package of measures to help households, businesses, and public sector organisations meet the pressures of rising energy bills and alleviate the cost-of-living crisis.
These measures include:
-
The immediate introduction of an energy price guarantee.
-
A reduction in the energy price cap announced last week - from the 1st of October, a typical household energy bill will be capped at £2,500 per year for each of the next two years. This should save a typical household £1,000 a year.
-
Park Home residents will benefit from equivalent support.
-
These measures are in addition to the £400 energy bills discount through the energy support scheme announced in May.
-
Those on lowest incomes will continue to receive additional support
-
The government will support all businesses, charities and public sector organisations (including schools and hospitals) with their energy costs with an equivalence guarantee of up to 6 months.
It is absolutely right that we provide additional support for those struggling, as we face what is likely to be a difficult winter with rising costs and inflation. Many businesses and constituents have contacted me expressing concern and I welcome this announcement which will ease the burden on businesses and households within the constituency.
I am particularly delighted to see the government’s commitment to extending support for Park Home residents. Ensuring Park Home residents get the same support as all other residents is a real priority for me, with over a thousand Park Home residents in my constituency. I will continue to campaign for park home residents and will ensure it is delivered as promised.

Today’s announcement is a step in the right direction to securing a stable and sustainable long-term energy supply. I welcome the governments pro-growth, pro-business and pro-investment approach to energy and am assured that they will not pursue a windfall tax, which I believe would undermine the national interest and investment needed in our domestic energy production.
While these measures go some way to ease the burden, I understand that some will continue to face pressures with rising costs. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, I would urge you to contact your supplier and also your local authority, who may be able to provide assistance through the Government's Household Support Fund.
