I am pleased to see refugees from Ukraine being welcomed across the UK, but I know we all wish to do more. I continue to press Ministers to do more to support refugees both as they cross the border from Ukraine and as they arrive in the UK.
To prevent refugees making risky journeys across the continent, I have written to the Home Secretary asking for an update on the level of resource and co-ordinated support we are providing in Poland, Moldova and other neighbouring countries.
I have also shared concerns with Ministers over technical issues and difficulties of our visa application, particularly regarding ensuring the system is clear and accessible. Those who have had to flee their homes are extremely vulnerable and we must do all we can to protect them from people who would seek to exploit them, both on the continent and as they arrive in the UK. I remain concerned over delays in processing and visa turnaround and I worry that the generosity of constituents is being blocked by bureaucracy. I will continue to press for improvements to visa processing and have requested updates regarding the processing time and number of applications received and approved.
If you or anyone you know have experienced difficulties with either scheme to support Ukrainian refugees and would like my assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected].
