I was recently contacted by HermesParcels offering me the chance to nominate a local charity to receive a £1,000 donation in recognition of the work they do and the difficulties charities have faced raising funds during the pandemic.
So, I was delighted to nominate Home-start in Runnymede and Woking, who received this generous donation this week. Responding to the news, they said:
“A big thank you to Hermes from all at Home-Start Runnymede & Woking. This kind donation will help our work supporting vulnerable families in Surrey. Our volunteers and staff provide emotional and practical support to families in their homes and through groups. As we come out of the pandemic, more families are struggling than ever before and donations like this will enable us to help as many families as possible.”
Home-Start Runnymede & Woking is a local charity which provides emotional and practical support to parents with at least one child under five years old. Their aim is to provide early support to families who are facing the challenges and stresses of family life, including a wide range of difficulties such as isolation, low self-esteem, physical and mental health issues.
They work alongside parents in their homes to help raise their self-confidence and their ability to cope in an increasingly pressured society. Their emphasis is on parents helping parents. You can find out more about their work and how to access support here: https://homestartraw.org/ -
The pandemic has posed many challenges and been particularly difficult for many families and children. The support Home-Start Runnymede and Woking can provide is needed now more than ever, and I wish to join them in thanking Hermes for their support for our local communities and this fantastic charity.
