Leaseholders in Runnymede and Weybridge will no doubt have seen the latest news that the Government intends to take further action on leasehold and commonhold reform, and to protect more leaseholders from the devastating position they find themselves in when it comes to building safety remediation works. Below you can read two Ministerial letters on these matters which lay out the current state of play.
I know how difficult the past few years have been for people affected by the cladding and fire safety scandal. I have held many meetings with individual constituents and resident groups who are affected by leaseholder and building safety issues and I have taken these to Ministers in face-to-face meetings and in written correspondence, as well as contacting developers and management companies on their behalf. So, while I am delighted the Government have listened on many of the subjects that have been raised, I fully appreciate this is not yet the full story and I am not ready to stop here while leaseholders in the constituency still face many challenges in moving on with their lives.
I recently had the opportunity in the House to raise with the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities the need for greater clarity on measures that will help leaseholders who have been trapped in their situation and unable to move through no fault of their own, so that they can have the certainty they need as soon as possible, which you can view above.
I will continue to meet with local leaseholders in the coming months on this difficult issue to discuss how I can further address their serious concerns. If you would like to get in contact with me regarding leaseholder issues, please email me at [email protected].
