It was an honour to open the new Egham Town Football Stadium this weekend and watch them play their first ever league match against Virginia Water. While I obviously have no favourites between our local clubs, it was great to see both sides in action in what was not only an exciting match (including seeing the use of a sin-bin which I’ve never seen before in football!), but marked a great milestone for Egham Town as they bounce back from the arson attack which destroyed their main stand in May.
It was great to hear of the amazing support the Sarnies received from the local community following the fire, which has meant the Club could not only rebuild the stand, but also make improvements to the clubhouse. Huge thanks go to Chairman Pat Bennett, his family, local companies and supporters for all of their efforts. I am sure the new Brian Askew and Jimmy Hughes Stand will serve the Club and its fans well, and will hopefully see many more wins for the club both this season and in years to come.
