I am aware that Elmbridge Borough Council has announced the immediate suspension of its garden waste collection service due to its contractor struggling with the shortage of HGV drivers. I know many residents will be frustrated and concerned by this.
I have asked Elmbridge Council leaders to meet with me to discuss this situation. I have also had discussions with Elmbridge’s Conservative Councillors who are also concerned by this decision by Elmbridge Council and are pressing the Administration for further explanation why contingency measures were not put in place. I have also written to the Secretary of State for Transport regarding action to be taken nationally to address the driver shortage.
