This week I met with The Reverend Damian Harrison-Miles of Saint Mary’s Church in Thorpe, and Church Warden Pete Gruncell.
As well as viewing the beautiful church I also took the opportunity to discuss how they have been able to continue to support the parish and community throughout the pandemic. It was great to hear about the steps that Saint Mary’s took in the early stages of the pandemic to manage social distancing and safe worship, while also delivering essential support to those in need and using technology to maintain church services. Faith is central to the lives of so many, and it is great that places of worship such as Saint Mary’s rose to the challenge and helped provide support for so many.
Beyond pandemic related issues, we also engaged in a vibrant discussion about local transport, planning policy, and the history of the Church. As the oldest church in Runnymede and Weybridge St Mary’s is steeped in history and has some beautiful and original medieval painted glass – with such a warm welcome too, if you haven’t been to the church please do go a take a look.
