I had the fantastic opportunity to visit Gogmore Park Youth Club this week and see what the young people of Chertsey are up to over the Summer break. I arrived on day two of summer camp, and the kids attending gave me such a warm, friendly welcome as if they’d been visiting the centre for weeks.
I had the delightful experience of playing hockey (boys vs girls) and I even managed to tap the ball a couple of times! I was taught how slime is made and was introduced to the world of poppets. I had a great time having discussions with the children about how everyone felt about covid and how home schooling went; all this while eating a delicious piece of the kid’s homemade flapjack that they made that morning!
This fantastic centre, open to children in Chertsey, could not be made possible without the hard work of former Mayor and Councillor Dolsie Clarke, centre manager Shannon and their team, who have transformed the club into a fun, energetic place for kids to hang out safely with one another.
I was extremely impressed by the community spirit the children brought to the morning, and with huge welcoming smiles, it showed me what a success this centre truly is. The children will also be visiting Chertsey museum this week and are also going to be introduced to the realm of egg blowing. I was pleased to see the kids also made their own ground rules on being kind and having fun, and with the sun shining there was a real buzz in the air. I wish Dolsie and the team every success for future events and I hope the youth centre continues to thrive.
The youth club opens again on the 1st September from 4:30-6:00pm for 11-13yr olds and 6:30-8:30pm for 13yrs and up. For more information, please contact Dolsie on 07718924620 or email [email protected]
