Last week I visited the Weybridge Job Centre and met the fantastic people who help support people back into work. Having a job is hugely important to people and their families and job centres are places of hope and opportunity with a great team of supportive staff members, passionate about getting people back into work.
We spoke about the care and detail they go into supporting people with extra needs, looking into the right package of support and jobs for people based on their skills and previous work, the great opportunities the kickstart scheme brings, and helping people through the pandemic and beyond. Sometimes when people have lost their job or got into difficulties, they can feel stigmatised by being out of work and having to look for it. The Weybridge Jobcentre could not be warmer and more welcoming, buzzing with passion to help people. We are so lucky to have such a great teams helping our residents get into work!
One other area that we talked about was the need to support people with childcare or broader caring commitments. The Government absolutely must ensure that there are no barriers to getting into work for people who can work, and many of my constituents have told me that childcare costs or caring for a loved one stops them from working. We need to improve what we do in this area and I will continue to raise this with the Government.
