This morning the Environment Agency issued a flood warning for the River Thames, meaning there is a risk of flooding to property. This alert is for the Thames at Laleham, which also affects Laleham Reach and the area around Thorpe Park resort in Runnymede. Flood barriers have also been erected in Weybridge, and a number of flood alerts have been issued for local rivers, including the Chertsey and Addlestone Bournes.
Unfortunately some residents have already been affected by this flooding. I have today met with residents in Laleham reach and been in contact with Runnymede Council regarding their response and plans should further action be required. I am also in contact with Thames Water regarding reports of sewage flooding and with the environment agency.
Further rain is forecast, and I would urge every to be careful and alert, avoid towpaths where possible.
