A prominent local business forced to close it’s facilities due to covid has turned adversity to advantage for the community by encouraging its members to donate their membership fees to local foodbanks in Runnymede and Weybridge.
Foxhills Club and Resort was forced to close for the second time this year due to the national restrictions introduced in November. As members could not use the facilities their membership fees would have been refunded, however the business instead proposed that members donate this to local foodbanks to help others. More than 220 members responded, leading to a donation of over £25,000.
Marc Hayton, Foxhills owner and managing director, said: “It’s been a challenging year for Foxhills, with two forced closures, but we are confident that we will come out the other side stronger and better than ever and want to do all we can to make sure local residents do too.”
Angela Miller from Runnymede Foodbank said: “We truly can’t thank Foxhills and its members enough for everything they have done to support us. Their kindness and generosity is completely overwhelming.
Responding to the donation to the foodbank, Dr Ben Spencer MP said:
This initiative is a testament to all involved and a great support to the Runnymede Foodbank and everyone it helps. Throughout the pandemic there have been amazing examples of people working to support their communities, and this is the latest example. I am grateful for the efforts of everyone who has responded to positively to the challenges we have faced this year, and hope we will be able to come together to celebrate our community achievements in the coming year.
