Today I met with representatives from Surrey County Council transport team and Highways England as part of advance planning for road works due on Junction 11 of the M25.
Works are planned to both the A320, including upgrades to J11, and for J10-16 to be converted to a new Smart motorway, again with planned improvements to J11. While not due to start until 2022, it is important that we ensure co-operation and early planning to mitigate the impact of these works on the local road network and the residents, businesses, and of course hospital and ambulance station which rely upon it.
While I am informed the works cannot unfortunately also address the need to replace the concrete surface of the motorway at the same time, I am pressing for additional measures to mitigate the noise and air pollution and the impact the motorway and these works will have on our communities.
I will continue to work closely with both Surrey County Council and Highways England, and will ensure St Peter’s, the Ambulance Service and other essential stakeholders are also involved in the planning for diversions and contingency measures for when these works take place.
