Surrey County Council are seeking to introduce a new ‘lane rental’ scheme, to reduce disruption and delays on our road network.
The plan, which wold compliment the existing permit scheme, would incentivise organisations needing to carry out works on the highways, such as utility companies, to improve their planning, work outside of peak times and reduce the duration of their work.
Dr Ben Spencer, MP for Runnymede and Weybridge, welcomed the proposals:
We’ve all been stuck in traffic jams due to road works. By encouraging companies to complete these works outside of peak times, this will minimise disruption and improve accessibility. I welcome the proposals as a further step to keep Runnymede and Weybridge moving.
