Last week I attended a parliamentary event on airspace modernisation. Industry experts from air traffic control provider NATS and the Airspace Change Organising Group were present to provide detail and present the ‘Our Future Skies’ campaign, a coalition of organisations including airports and airlines that are highlighting the need for airspace modernisation.
It is essential that the UK Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) 2018 Airspace Modernisation Strategy is able to deliver quicker, quieter and cleaner journeys and more capacity for the benefit of those who use and are affected by UK airspace.
To ensure this, the CAA is currently consulting on where airspace change could be taken forward to provide benefits, to consider potential conflicts, trade-offs and dependencies, and set out a preferred implementation plan. The consultation closes on 27 March. Full consultation details are available here: https://consultations.caa.co.uk/policy-development/airspace-change-masterplan-criteria/
I would urge anyone with an interested in the future of UK airspace to let your views be known as part of this consultation.
