Yet again the lift at Weybridge station is broken. I’ve raised the issue of the regularly broken lifts at Weybridge station many times over the last few years, but it still continues to break down.
I have written again to SWR’s managing director Clare Mann to ask:
-
The cause of the current problem with the lift
-
The timeframe for fixing it
-
Whether this fix will be long-term and end the ongoing regular breakdowns
Many depend on these lifts to travel. From people living with disabilities, to families with young children and children in buggies, these lifts are essential. We are now in the winter period, a time when the station stairs will be less safe because of the damp, frosty weather, and when many more people will be wanting to use the lift to avoid them.
Particularly at this time of year, many passengers will be taking trips into London and visiting nearby shopping centres. And reliance on accessibility of trains will only increase following Mayor of London's decision to further tax motorists through the expansion of the ULEZ zone - approved despite opposition from over 60% of those affected.
I have been clear with South Western Rail that these lifts must be fixed immediately and the long-term issue resolved once and for all. You can see a copy of my letter below and I will update constituents as soon as I receive answers from them.
