I have today signed the petition to save our paddling pools in Weybridge. I was shocked to learn recently that paddling pools in Weybridge are yet again under threat following a vote by Elmbridge Council to remove funding, and would encourage all residents to support the campaign to retain this important community facility.
Last year I and 1,500 residents supported Elmbridge Conservatives’ successful campaign, led by Cllr Charu Sood, to have the pools reopened after the Liberal Democrat run Council’s planned to keep them closed.
We need great community services, especially those free to use for local families at a time many are facing rising costs. Given the level of public support shown so recently, I am astounded that the Liberal Democrats and their Resident Association coalition colleagues have voted to try again to phase the paddling pools out to save £60,000 in upkeep. This is despite the national government giving Council's millions of extra funding to support community and leisure services in recent years.
As is stands, this decision means these local amenities for families will disappear next year. I am therefore again supporting Elmbridge Conservatives in campaigning against these closures. You can sign the petition to save our paddling pools here.
