Following disruption at some forecourts across the area I have reached out to local emergency, health, and local authority service providers following constituent concerns. There are no current reports of threats to service provision, and services are being monitored closely with contingency plans in place should the disruption continue.
While essential services are unaffected, these events are having an impact on people going about every day business, such as driving to work or taking their children to school. It is important to stress that there is no national fuel shortage. The disruption is being created by a surge in demand, with many more customers rushing to fuel their cars in response to media reports and queues at filling stations.
Life has seen enough disruptions over the past 18 months and I would urge everyone to consider whether they really need to fill up their car or whether it can wait for this peak in demand to pass, so that normal service can resume
