Today I submitted my response to Surrey County Council's consultation on the future of 8 care homes, with particular reference to Birchlands care home in Englefield Green and the wider impact this decision may have on care home provision across Surrey.
It is essential that residents' needs are prioritised, not only in the initial decision but also implementation of any following actions. I therefore welcome the consultation, and have highlighted a number of areas I believe need to be addressed as part of this process. These include: the practical and financial support available to residents should they be required to move; assessment of broader care home capacity across Surrey; and whether this may have an impact of the ability of hospitals to discharge patients into care settings locally. A copy of my full submission is available below.
The consultation is open until 5 January. For more information, including on how to have your say, please visit https://www.surreysays.co.uk/adult-social-care-and-public-health/op-dra….
