On Thursday 2nd March, the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak popped into Chertsey to thank and pay tribute to many of our amazing community leaders, volunteers, and recent award winners for their astonishing work in Runnymede!
It was great to be able to host a thank you event for many of our amazing community leaders, volunteers, and charities here in Runnymede.
Thank you to everyone at Revive Coffee Shop in Chertsey for hosting us. Revive is a fantastic example of the community spirit demonstrated by our volunteers – always among the first to respond to challenges at home or abroad, and providing support for many residents and community groups, including the weekly hub for Ukrainian refugees and host families, and the Runnymede foodbank. Guests included representatives from across the borough, many of whom got a chance to tell the Prime Minister about the important work they do.
This included representatives from local charities, Scouts, outstanding volunteers, as well as many of our wonderful groups in the Borough such as Holme Farm Community Workshop and Gardens, Addlestone Canoe Club, Chertsey Clean Up, the Hare Hill Open Space Volunteers, Core Judo in Thorpe, Dementia Carers Support, HeBrews Café in Addlestone and many more!
Many of the attendees were also winners and nominees at the Runnymede Civic Awards, a fantastic event organised by the Council honouring our local community heroes that I was honoured to be able to attend and present awards to some of the winners! You can see photos from the evening here.
I am delighted so many were able to attend this special event which demonstrated once again how lucky we are to have such amazing communities and volunteers.
Commenting after his visit, the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said: “Our volunteers make up the heart of our community and I was delighted to be able to meet and thank many during my recent visit to Chertsey. I was incredibly impressed by the breadth of fantastic initiatives taking place in Runnymede. Thank you to everyone who helps and gives back, no matter how big or small.”
