The High Court has today granted permission for a Judicial Review into Sadiq Kahn's ULEZ expansion plans. The decisions comes following challenge from 5 Conservative run Councils, including Surrey County Council. The High Court ruled there was sufficient evidence on two grounds for the case to proceed to trial, which is now expected to take place in July.
This is great news for everyone who has been campaigning against ULEZ expansion. As I have highlighted, the Mayor's own evidence shows it will have minimal impact on air quality, while disproportionately affecting those on lower incomes. This London tax would also cost local businesses and residents needing to travel to Heathrow or outer London for work, health, education, or to see and care for loved ones.
I am delighted the case against ULEZ expansion will now be heard. In light of this decision work to implement the expansion should be stopped until the legal case is determined.
