Heathrow is running a consultation on its latest Noise Action Plan for the period 2024-28, which sets out the airport’s goals for managing its noise impact on local communities.
Runnymede and Weybridge has excellent transport links which have contributed to the investment and business opportunities enjoyed by the area. Proximity to Heathrow contributes to the prosperity of the constituency; it is one of our largest direct and indirect employers. However, I know that the noise generated by flight paths can impact constituents’ wellbeing.
I was pleased to visit Heathrow last year to discuss issues that affect Runnymede and Weybridge, such as employment in and around the airport, and noise and air pollution. This ties in with the work I have been doing with National Highways, Surrey County Council, transport providers and Government colleagues to deliver improvements to reduce both noise and air pollution locally.
Heathrow’s Noise Action Plan contains proposals on reducing the noise impact of the airport which have the potential to affect residents of Runnymede and Weybridge. These include trialling operational practices aimed at increasing the level of predictable respite from noise, particularly at night, and the implementation of easterly flight path alternation during the daytime, which could lead to less air traffic over the constituency. Heathrow is also looking to improve engagement with stakeholders, including community groups, through a variety of forums.
I will be submitting a response to the consultation; however, if you would like to raise any concerns or queries with me as part of this process, please do contact me at [email protected].
You can also respond to the consultation directly before the deadline on 16 July. Full details are available here: www.heathrow.com/company/about-heathrow/consultation/heathrow-noise-action-plan-consultation/About-the-Noise-Action-Plan-2023-2028
