The Secretary of State for Education today announced that schools in England will be closed until further notice from Friday as a measure to further reduce social contact in society.
Some schools will be kept open to provide support for the children of key workers, such as NHS staff, teachers, police, and delivery drivers. They will also be asked to support those most in need, such as children eligible for free school meals.
These measures will cause difficulty and disruption for many parents, but it is important that we continue to follow the advice of experts to minimise the spread of Coronavirus and protect the most vulnerable in society.
The Government has highlighted that children should not be looked after by elderly or vulnerable people who are at higher risk of becoming ill. If you are uncertain, please follow the latest Government advice available here: https://www.gov.uk/government/topical-events/coronavirus-covid-19-uk-government-response
The announcement does mean that examinations may not take place this year however the Government has pledged to ensure all children get the qualifications that they need.
