I know many people will be worried following today's announcement that average household energy bills will rise to £3,549 from 1 October. With energy price rises being driven by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and constant increases in the price of gas, the cost is being borne by people and businesses across the country, in Europe and beyond.
With rising costs putting pressure on many household budgets it is clear further action will need to be taken before the winter. This will be an absolute priority for the new Prime Minister and Parliament to address in September, and I will continue to press for support, especially for those most vulnerable.
If you are experiencing financial difficulties, I would urge you to contact your supplier and also your local authority, who may be able to provide assistance through the Government's Household Support Fund. To contact Runnymede Borough Council please visit www.runnymede.gov.uk/contact-us-1 or call 01932 838383. For Weybridge residents, further information about the support available from Elmbridge Council is available at www.elmbridge.gov.uk/cost-of-living-support/ or by calling them on 01372 474474.
I would also urge everyone to check on and support vulnerable friends, family and neighbours, and to contact the local authority if you feel anyone may be in need of additional support.
