Last year I met with the former Runnymede Muslim Society Chairman to discuss the space requirements of this fantastic community group and it was great to be able to arrange a follow-up meeting last week for the Society with the Chief Executive of Runnymede Borough Council to raise the issue of a permanent base for their Friday prayers and extensive community outreach work.
The group is currently using the Jurgens Centre in Egham, but is now looking for a home of their own to base themselves in the community. It was fantastic to hear from the members about how they became involved – many looking for a Muslim community that provided sermons in English to engage youth members and being attracted to the Runnymede Muslim Society’s ethos of community being just as important as religion.
We have so many fantastic communities of all faiths in Runnymede and Weybridge, many of whom work together across faiths to help out our local area. I look forward to collaborating with RBC and the Muslim Society to work towards finding them a new home.
