The Chancellor has today announced further support for jobs and businesses, including enhanced support for areas subject to greater Tier 2 restrictions.
This support includes cash grants for hospitality and leisure businesses in Tier 2 – worth up to £2,100/month, to be distributed by local authorities. This represents 70% of the support available to businesses in Tier 3 areas.
In addition changes to the Job Support Scheme will see a significant reduction in employer contributions, and support for self employed will be increased, with the third self-employed grant doubling from 20% to 40% of profits. Full details of the plans are available here.
Dr Ben Spencer MP said:
The impact of the pandemic on businesses has been severe. Despite far reaching support measures provided by the Government, many businesses in Runnymede, and Weybridge in particular since the high alert status was announced, have been highlighting real concerns about their ability to weather further restrictions or lockdown without a severe impact on jobs.
I am therefore delighted by the additional support the Chancellor has today announced, not only providing much needed tailored support to sectors most in need, but also supporting their supply chains and the broader economy through more generous job and self employment scheme terms.
In response to the Chancellor’s statement Dr Spencer highlighted the need for support not only for the events businesses, but also the wider sector and supply chain it relies upon. His question, and the Chancellor’s response, can be viewed here.
