The decision to create a new school, amalgamating Christ Church C of E Infant School and Englefield Green Infant School and Nurseries was yesterday approved by Surrey County Council. The decision comes following a consultation on the future of the schools. Falling student admissions in both schools had resulted in each receiving less funding and this merger will ensure the area maintains the right numbers of school places while also maximising the benefits students receive, including plans for wrap around care being available in the new school.
Both schools will close on 31 August 2021 and the new school will open on 1 September 2021.This proposal was supported by the governors of both schools and will enable the creation of an outstanding school that meets the needs of children aged two to seven years in the community it serves.
Dr Ben Spencer MP said:
Given the challenges faced by both schools this amalgamation has been identified as the best outcome to ensure excellent school provision in the local area, and I look forward to the opening of a new outstanding school in Runnymede and Weybridge. I recognise that parents and staff may be disappointed that Christ Church CofE Infant School is to close, and questions do remain over school transport to the new site for parents of children who are currently going to Christ Church School. I will continue working with residents, Surrey County Council, Runnymede Council and the Diocese to address these concerns.
